the challenge
The UW-Madison School of Nursing investigated expanding the reach of their outreach courses and decided to move forward with this initiative through the implementation of a budget-conscious LMS.
Totara Learn was selected as a flexible LMS solution that would meet the design, functional, and budget requirements.
With the implementation of Totara Learn, the UW-Madison School of Nursing needed to:
- Be accessible to nursing home employees and k-12 school nurses
- Merge two course sets
- Convert courses to new technology
- Automate registration
- Automate user management
- Integrate eCommerce with the University system
- Manage bulk licenses for different organizations
This implementation was possible with Totara Learn and with the right partner.
the solution
With its open source nature, Totara Learn is highly adaptable and can be customized to meet specific organizational needs, making it a very good solution for the UW-Madison School of Nursing.
Synegen and eClass4Learning partnered together with the UW-Madison School of Nursing to migrate data to Totara Learn, convert courses to supported formats, and provide training.
Additionally, with its breadth and depth of technical experience, Synegen developed a new user interface as well as custom plugin that added note taking and bookmarking capability in Totara Learn for the UW-Madison School of Nursing Students.
the result
Since the implementation of Totara in 2015, there have been no technical issues reported and the feedback has been very positive. The LMS is expected to save UW-Madison money in management costs as it requires less time from staff members while also growing increased opportunities and channels for offering certificate and continuing education programs.
Additionally, UW-Madison is planning on creating versions of the LMS and related content for other audiences they serve. This should help increase uptake of their learning programs and servicing the thousands of users that turn to University of Wisconsin-Madison for their vital healthcare training needs.
"Synegen built a customized eCommerce piece, processing credit cards according to UW-Madison's standards. This allowed us to be more hands-off staff with our standards at UW-Madison. Synegen built everything, it was a seamless experience for us and our users. It integrated really well with Totara Learn!"
