Mozarc Medical is an independent company launched by Medtronic and DaVita in 2023. Mozarc Medical focuses exclusively on developing meaningful and innovative kidney health technologies globally that reimagine holistic kidney care for the future – including kidney access solutions, home dialysis technologies, and advancements in acute therapies.
the challenge
At Mozarc Medical, the mission to reshape kidney health relies on a highly trained workforce. Effective training ensures that employees have the knowledge and skills to support innovation, stay ahead of evolving regulations, and effectively use technology to drive better patient outcomes.However, Mozarc faced significant challenges with its previous learning platform. The system lacked ease of access, intuitive navigation, and overall usability. Creating new training materials and assigning users to curricula was slow and inefficient. Administrators relied heavily on manual, time-consuming processes requiring numerous steps to maintain functional workflows.
Limited reporting capabilities left administrators with insufficient tools to track training and compliance progress, learner engagement, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Designing an engaging learner experience posed another set of challenges. The platform lacked intuitive features, provided limited visibility into training completions, and made it hard to access key training resources like certificates. Additionally, Mozarc wanted to provide employees with a more structured training path for career advancement, but the system had limited functionality to support this. Managers could not directly recommend targeted training for their employees and instead had to rely on system administrators to handle these requests. This added administrative workload and led to missed opportunities for timely skill-building aligned with job performance and career growth.
the solution
To overcome these challenges, Mozarc needed a straightforward solution that simplified administrative tasks, improved reporting capabilities, and made training more accessible and engaging. Mozarc chose Totara for its intuitive learning management system (LMS) and partnered with Synegen, a trusted Platinum Totara Partner, to implement a more efficient, user-friendly platform.
Administrator Efficiency
The new system significantly enhances the administrator experience by simplifying the process of assigning learner training, managing user groups, and creating new training items. Once complex and time-consuming, these tasks are now easier to manage, enabling administrators to quickly assign and track training while ensuring content reaches the right users at the right time.
Additionally, Totara includes a comprehensive range of built-in reports that administrators can leverage. With more standard options that fit the organization’s needs, administrators no longer have to create numerous independent reports. For an organization operating in a highly regulated industry, this improved reporting capability not only saves time and effort but also strengthens regulatory preparedness by simplifying certification tracking and automating report generation.
Learner Experience
The new Totara platform introduces customizable dashboards, allowing administrators to improve navigation and keep key learning resources front and center. These dashboards give learners quick access to upcoming training deadlines, certificates, and essential metrics. With greater visibility, learners can easily stay on top of compliance requirements, such as expiring certifications and newly assigned training.
Job path training is an entirely new capability that lets managers recommend targeted learning opportunities to employees. Managers no longer have to wait for an administrator to process requests. They can easily recommend learning based on their understanding of the employee's development needs, goals, and readiness for advancement. This shift provides managers greater ownership and control over employee development, accelerating career growth and fostering a culture of continuous learning. As a result, the workforce is well-prepared to meet evolving challenges and contribute to the organization’s long-term objectives.
One of the standout features of the new LMS is the real-time training assignment. Once training is assigned, it appears immediately for learners. In regulated environments, where missed deadlines can lead to compliance risks, the instant availability of real-time training assignments allows employees to start training immediately, avoiding costly gaps. Additionally, upon completion, the system automatically records progress and grants credit, eliminating the extra steps learners previously needed to register completion.
The introduction of SSO allows learners to access the system with one set of credentials, reducing the need to remember multiple usernames and passwords. This simplifies access, making it easier for learners to continue their learning journey.
HR Integration
The new system integrates seamlessly with Dayforce, ensuring smooth daily data synchronization. It automatically creates accounts for new hires and updates user information for inactivated employees, those on leave, or employees who have been promoted and now have new direct reports. By keeping training assignments and historical records aligned with HR data, reporting accuracy is improved, ensuring that information remains up to date and unaffected by outdated user account information.
the result
Mozarc Medical has transformed its training program, achieving a remarkable 100% on-time completion rate for the first time, surpassing its 95% target, and setting a new benchmark for training effectiveness. With improved visibility into deadlines and real-time progress tracking, they have strengthened on-time completion as a key performance indicator (KPI), ensuring consistent performance and accountability across the organization.
By integrating with Dayforce, Mozarc has automated user management, ensuring that employees on leave are seamlessly paused from training, leading to more accurate reporting and improved completion rates.
The transition to Totara has also driven significant time savings, with training tasks appearing instantly upon assignment, eliminating delays.
Beyond efficiency, Mozarc has fostered greater learner engagement by providing employees with clear training pathways and encouraging ownership of their development. With the addition of Totara Engage, the LMS has evolved into a dynamic knowledge hub, offering job aids, product information, and standard operating procedures. This not only reinforces Mozarc’s commitment to continuous learning but also ensures employees have the resources they need to stay compliant and knowledgeable, ultimately driving business performance forward.
On standing up Mozarc’s Quality Management System and continuing our path towards independence, one key area of improvement identified was improvement in our Learning Management System. The need encompassed a want for a better system administration and improved user experience. The Totara platform has met those needs while also addressing all of our key user requirements. The January system launch has, so far, reaped very positive feedback and we look forward to building upon that success as well as continuing our key, interactive relationship with the Synegen team
