The American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA) is an educational, research and scientific association of physicians organized to improve patient care and raise the standards of the medical practice of anesthesiology. With over 50,000 national and international members, ASA is one of the largest communities of anesthesiologists in the US.

the challenge
One of the services ASA offers to its members is end-to-end learning for required yearly anesthesiology certifications. Via its LMS, ASA provides versioned coursework in tailored learning plans based on anesthesiology specialty, licensing state, and updated laws, regulations, and rules.
The ASA LMS must also maximize accessibility to learning in order to support members during long hospital shifts with restricted networks and poor mobile signal. One of the requirements is that ASA members must be able to complete learning at their convenience during work hours.
the solution
ASA selected Totara Learn as its LMS. Totara Learn hierarchy, framework, and learning plans allow ASA to manage the complex needs of its members while providing a complete picture of usage, progress, and achievements across the organization. With robust compliance and assessment capabilities, Totara Learn also maintains clear and accurate audit trails, vital to the nature of the certification process.
To implement Totara Learn, Synegen was selected as the partner of choice. Synegen is a highly technical Totara Platinum Partner and is uniquely positioned to utilize the open source nature of Totara Learn to meet and exceed ASA requirements.
For ASA, Synegen developed a mobile application to provide online and offline access to the full Totara Learn course experience.
Within the mobile application, ASA members are notified of any new courses and can download those courses (with internet access). Whether online or offline, anesthesiologists can then view course content, watch video, listen to audio, and take quizzes. After completing course activities, the results are uploaded when online and are synchronized with Totara Learn. Certifications are awarded upon completion of individual members learning plans.
